When trying to pick careers, some younger people might not be aware of everything that’s open to them.
For example, aviation is one area where a number of different careers exist. In order to highlight this, AirTran Airways has developed a week-long program for younger people and recently graduated more than a dozen students from the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee Young Leaders Academy.
The airline’s ACE Academy is a program approved by the Federal Aviation Administration and includes training in areas such as math, engineering and aviation history. Young people are chosen to take part in the program based on essays they write.
“Thanks to AirTran Airways, a number of our talented students are now inspired to consider careers in aviation,” said Bob Yamachika, president and chief executive officer of the YMCA in the city.
Young people who are interest in taking part in aviation careers may consider getting an early start by trying to get their pilot’s license. The FAA has a wealth of information available on its website, www.faa.gov, which outlines the process.
